How Online Lessons Work
Online music composition lessons are convenient, affordable, and effective. Admitted Students use an online studio to ask questions, post assignments, and receive feedback in a convenient PDF format. Assignments are determined on a case by case basis as each student is different. To start with, composers will complete an introductory lesson to assess their current level of ability, strengths, and weaknesses.
The entire process can be summarized in 4 simple steps:
First Time Students
- Students apply for lessons after reviewing the introductory lesson and submit the required assignment with their application.
- The instructor reviews the assignment and accepts the student contingent upon availability.
- If the student is admitted to the studio, the next step is to purchase lessonsfor the rest of the month.
- Students are then assigned a private studio and given their first assignment.
Continuing Students
After the first lesson students continue to submit assignments, ask questions, take courses and seminars all from within The Composers Studio.
This is a simple, time tested, and extremely effective method for training composers. The expert feedback and guidance is a crucial component to online lessons and helps the student to reflect and develop as a composer.
Submitting Assignments
Students can submit assignments in a variety of ways. The preferred method is through the use ofa notation program such as Finale or Sibelius. If you do not have a notation program, you could download thenominally priced Finale Notepad. While Finale Notepad is limited, it will get you started with lessons and can be used for much of the coursework and beginning assignments.
College and University Faculty, Staff, and Students can receive an academic discount on music notation software at http://genesis-technologies.com.
Studio Calendar
Studentsareable to see exactly when their lesson is due by checking the studio calendar. This eliminates any confusion that might result otherwise, and enables the instructor to respond to submissions quickly. Students are asked to turn in their assignments by the due date for submissions in order to receive the best service and quickest responses.
